Thanks to the micocoulier, people from Sauve have put in place an ingenuous process to cultivate

the fork. Starting from a micocoulier grain they obtain, after 5 or 6 years, a tree that

will be trimmed a few centimetres from the ground.

Each stump will produce a dozen suckers of a curious bud : the flower of Lys that will give birth

to 3 stems, the future hayfork 's                                     beaks.

An ancestral technique.

After 6 or 8 years of successive trimmings and detailed cares the suckers will get into the successful shape. Then, the fork is harvested and baked in the oven before being peeled. Craftsmen can obtain the wished curve to the nozzles thanks to the flexibility of the heated wood. Then, nozzles are placed into a special mould in order to adjust the curve and trim the hayfork to the right size.

In Sauve’s surroundings, you can find fields of micocoulier trees

 used to produce hayforks.

A last passage in the oven up

to 120 degrees, for about 15

up to 20 hours, will give the

hayfork its final shape and

 strength.

Finally, the hayfork will be

Refined and kept for

 one year in the conservatory

 before being marketed.

The Sauve‘s hayfork is light, handy, very resistant, not subject to rot and doesn’t hurt animals. It’s a wonderful object, all in one b lock, in micocoulier Wood and fully hand-made.

Anti-static, the hayfork is well appreciated for the manipulation of down, wool, hay and dried flowers. It’s well-known for its famous bark and is available in 3 sizes.
